WEEK TWO: Leadership. Influence. Action. Welcome back to The SCEM VIEW, with Deric. By now, you know, I’m pursuing a master’s degree in Strategic Communication at Troy University. This blog (which I like to pretend is a popular primetime talk show) was originally created to explore and discuss various topics and content in my Strategic Communication & Emerging Media (SCEM) course but I have since completed that course and am now taking COM 6610 Leadership -I decided to hold on to the name The SCEM View purely because it's catchy and you guys already know it. And so, here we are- let's keep riding this thing out! Last week, I took the time to bring all of the new guests up to speed on who I am and what they could expect from my blog. I also mentioned, briefly, The Diffusions of Innovations and was hoping that you all have taken the liberty to explore  that more on your own. Well, did you? Good stuff! This week, during week two of COM 6610, we are discussing Inte...

The SCEM View, get it? I have since completed that course but have decided to keep the name! After all, it's catchy and you guys already know it so let's keep riding this thing out. For those who are new to the page, let's catch up for second. I'm an emerging young actor/singer/writer with experience in both stage and screen. Cue the music... It all started with the local boys and girls club in my native Ozark, Alabama continuing through primary and secondary schools as well as college, Troy University where I re...

For over two months now, we've been exploring and discussing various topics and content from my Strategic Communication & Emerging Media (SCEM)COM6630 course. As a part of our overall grade, we were required to create a blog and post weekly. And as the host, I have taken us a quite the journey. Traditional media, mobile communication, social media, blogging, citizen journalism, crowdsourcing and branding all make a little more sense to me now and it is my hope that you guys have benefited from The SCEM View as well and maybe even enjoyed it too! But, the term is now over and we are going to taking a brief break. Nonetheless, I sti...
I'm Thinking About Having A Talk With My Mother... October 8, 2017 By: Deric Kennedy What’s up folks! Welcome back to The SCEM VIEW, with Deric. As you know, I’m pursuing a master’s degree in Strategic Communication at Troy University and this show (blog) was created to explore and discuss various topics and content in my Strategic Communication & Emerging Media (SCEM) course. Glad to have you back! So, before we move on to this week’s show, here’s a quick mention of last week’s. During week seven, my COM 6630 class explored the world of branding and online reputation. We hit topics like “The Fundamentals of Personal Branding” and learned a personal brand is your reputation or image. But it isn’t a reputation or image that accidentally crops up about you. A personal brand is the reputation and image that you intentionally create, manage and communicate about, in a way that an audience finds engaging . I found the information to be both insightful and beneficial in ma...
USING SOCIAL MEDIA TO FURTHER MY BRAND October 1, 2017 By: Deric Kennedy Hey, welcome back to The SCEM VIEW, with Deric. As you know, I’m pursuing a master’s degree in Strategic Communication with Troy University and this show (blog) was created to explore and discuss various topics and content in my Strategic Communication & Emerging Media (SCEM) course. And I’m glad to have you back! Before we move on to this week’s show, here’s a quick mention of last week’s. During week six, my COM 6630 class explored Crowdsourcing, Politics and the Global Impact of Emerging Media. We spent the bulk of our time discussing crowdsourcing, using a particular CROWD (via the internet) as a SOURCE to obtain needed knowledge, goods or services. I presented an analysis of the concepts, a critique of the points synthesized from the readings and made it personal and shared my interpretation of it all. Well folks, we are now at week seven and this week, COM 6630 is taking a look into the ...
