And we're back with more of The SCEM VIEW, with Deric

Well, maybe that wasn't as big of a break as we imagined. But, hey. It's great to have you back!
October 22, 2017 By: Deric Kennedy

As many of you know, I'm pursuing a master’s degree in Strategic Communication at Troy University and this show (blog) was originally created to discuss various topics and content from my Strategic Communication & Emerging Media (SCEM) course. The SCEM View, get it? I have since completed that course but have decided to keep the name! After all, it's catchy and you guys already know it so let's keep riding this thing out.

For those who are new to the page, let's catch up for second. I'm an emerging young actor/singer/writer with experience in both stage and screen. Cue the music... It all started with the local boys and girls club in my native Ozark, Alabama continuing through primary and secondary schools as well as college, Troy University where I received a BS degree in Human Services and Communications. I followed that with a brief stint at the New York Conservatory for Dramatic Arts in 2015. Currently a full-time graduate student and still developing my craft, I have been fortunate to work in commercials, music videos, most notably with Keith Sweat and hip-hop artists 2Chainz.I appeared on BET's premiere episode of The Quad and I recently, I landed a co-starring role in as Nick on the original indie series Wanted Dead, a principle role in the Essence Magazine recognized Web Series "Side Chick" and earn the lead role in an upcoming social justice short titled The Other Side. On stage , I've done a variety of work in community and regional productions. Aside from that, I have worked in various industries and pretty much maintained a true freelance lifestyle.

Alright, enough about me. Let's get back to The SCEM View. A few reminders, I will post once a week for the next nine weeks and it'll normally be on weekends. As mentioned earlier, this blog was originally created for my SCEM (COM6630) course but I have decided to keep it up as I now embark on a new journey with COM 6610 - Leadership and Media Strategies, as a part of my degree program.  During the next nine weeks, in Leaders & Media Strategies, we are going to evaluate the strengths and weakness of the communications industry and analyze the challenges and opportunities facing leaders of newspapers, magazines, broadcasting and online. Plus, we are going to talk about some strategic choices facing communication industry executives. And this brings us to today's quick mention. For week one, we explored the Diffusion of Innovations theory. In summary, Diffusion of Innovations seeks to explain how innovations are taken up in a population. An innovation is an idea, behavior, or object that is perceived as new by its audience. And I am going to stop there and conclude today's show!

I look forward to seeing you all -plus newcomers- next week for more of The SCEM View, with Deric. See you then.

Hey, I’m Bob. What’s You Instagram info? September 12, 2017 By: Deric Kennedy Have social media replaced the need for business cards? Hey, welcome back to The SCEM VIEW, with Deric. As you know, I’m pursuing a master’s degree in Strategic Communication at Troy University and this blog was created to explore the content we discuss each week in my Strategic Communication & Emerging Media (SCEM) course. Glad to have you back with us! Quick recap of last week, my COM 66030 class briefly explored mobile technologies and the way they are changing the way people seek information. Some of these changes were positive, some were not. We discussed the impact mobile technologies have made on a few great classic American traditions- my high school class reunion being one of them. My topic proposed the question, has technology killed my class reunion? We concluded the following: While class reunion attendance has declined tremendously across the board in the past deca...
